G
Friday 28 November 2008 - Saturday 29 November 2008
Internationally renowned choreographer Garry Stewart’s latest work and Southbank Centre co-commission, G, is a powerful reworking of the ballet Giselle.
Hysteria, vulnerability, desire, gender, death and the afterlife are embodied by the formidable dancers of Australian Dance Theatre in a seamless interplay of powerful athleticism and deconstructed classicism. The score is accompanied by a running commentary that toys with language codes on hovering screens, reconfiguring the story of the original ballet and its themes.
‘The contrast between stately elegance and sudden explosive athleticism is particularly effective. His cast serve him with versatility, stamina and assurance. G is already an impressive achievement’ (Australian).
Please note: this performance features some female nudity. Recommended for ages 16 and over.
Saturday 29 November, 4pm at The Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall: Australian Dance Theatre masterclass. Admission free.
Saturday 29 November: Post-performance Meet the Artists session. Admission free with ticket.
G has been co-commissioned by The Joyce Theater’s Stephen and Cathy Weinroth Fund for New Work (New York), Southbank Centre (London) and Merrigong Theatre Co. at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (Wollongong).
G has been co-produced by Théâtre de la Ville (Paris).
